Wondering what you’ll need to do as a maid of honor? Sometimes, this can be one of the most important roles in a wedding. If you’ve been chosen as a maid of honor, continue reading to learn some important tips that will prepare you for your new role.
With the bride:
Offer to help the Bride with Pre-wedding Duties.
From sending invites to picking the wedding theme (colors, flowers, etc) and approving enthusiastically when she gets poetic about the wedding cake.
Be the best listener.
Whether it’s about the planning, the marriage itself, or anything at all, the maid of honor should always be there to comfort the bride and make her feel that she has someone with whom she can share her feelings and thoughts. The bride will need to vent, and the maid of honor is always there listening.
During the wedding.
Make sure the bride takes a moment to eat something, hand her a drink, or instruct the wait staff to keep her attended. You are also responsible for helping her with the dress if she needs to use the restroom. In other words, be there for her!
Prepare your maid of honor toast.
Short, funny, or romantic. However you choose to do it, make sure it comes from the heart. That’s your opportunity to let her and everybody know why you were overjoyed to be chosen as maid of honor! Show the love!
With the bridesmaids:
Be the leader of the bridesmaid group.
It’s your job to direct the other maids through their tasks. Ensure that every bridesmaid gets their dress, accompany them to the dress fittings, and look for the right accessories. Keep them informed of all the pre-wedding plans, meetings, and of course, parties.
All of the bridesmaids should play hostess at frequent points during the event. They can help answer questions for guests such as where to sit, or point them to the restrooms, gift table, or guest book signing location.
Stay for any cleanup duties.
Just because the bride and groom have driven off and guests are leaving doesn’t mean that the you should pack up and do the same. As bridesmaids, it’s respectful and proper to stick around and make sure everything is in order and cleaned up.
