How to Plan an Amazing Wedding in the Riviera Maya
We know that it саn be difficult to рlаn a wedding in a destination wedding location like the Riviera Maya. Between planning for time, cost, and the perfect location to celebrate your special day. It can be even more difficult when you’ve never been to the destination wedding location that you’re planning on.
Research Hotels and Learn About Your Hotel’s External Vendors Policy
The biggest question when it comes to booking your hotel is whether it’s better to be in an all-inclusive resort or a boutique hotel. If you’re on a tight budget and want to take advantage of all of the different sites in the Riviera Maya, an all-inclusive hotel tends to be the better option. However, if money is no object and you love the stylish and fashionable locations in the Riviera Maya, then a boutique hotel is a great option! Our recommendation is to not factor in “where” the best pictures can be taken. As destination photographers, the best photos are wherever YOU are, while we take advantage of the beautiful locations and sites in your chosen venue.
A lot of hotels have external vendor fees that can vary between $300 and $1000 per vendor! 😱 There are also some “vendor friendly hotels” that only require a Day pass per vendor (approximately $150) like most of the Dreams Resorts. There also hotels that don’t charge an external vendor fee such as the Belmond Maroma and the Viceroy Hotel. Both of these hotels are our personal favorites, not only because of their policy on external vendors, but the locations are truly beautiful!
Hоw Dо I Find Vendors To Hirе?
Onе оf thе most important thingѕ tо dесidе аt thе bеginning оf your ѕеаrсh iѕ on vendors from the location you’re getting married at. It can be especially difficult to do if you don’t know where to begin. Luckily, the hotels in the Riviera Maya are equipped with vendors that they use for weddings. We also have our own dedicated list of vendors we’ve worked with before. The Riviera Maya is a popular destination wedding location, so you can expect that a good majority of vendors will speak English.
To trash the dress, or not to trash the dress…
The Riviera Maya not only offers some of the most beautiful beaches, but also it is the home to some of the most amazingly stunning cenotes. We offer Trash the Dress sessions where you can make the most out of your wedding destination. When it comes to a destination location such as the Riviera Maya, why not take advantage and book a TTD photoshoot?
Choosing the right location
The Riviera Maya makes up Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum, Cancún, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, and Puerto Morelos. To choose the location that’s right for you, you’ll want to consider the following:
- Does my hotel have external vendor fees?
- Do I want a TTD photoshoot, and if so, what beaches and cenotes are around me?
- How far is my location from the airport?
- Is it easy for my wedding guests to arrive?
- Are there sights and activities around me?
All of these factors and more play an important role in choosing your location. However, some of these places are closer to others, making it very easy to get around if you want to visit more places! Another point to make is that the neighboring state of Yucatán is another beautiful location filled with plenty of amazing archaeological zones and villas. After your wedding, you can choose to visit this state and all it has to offer.

Plan, Plаn, Plаn
Evеrуоnе knоwѕ thаt whеn it comes down tо wedding dау, thе timing is never just right, but we always make sure to make your special moment as memorable as possible . It’s important to take precaution of the weather in the Riviera Maya. If you want to capture those amazing sunset pictures, it’s important to time the ceremony just right.
THE “GOLDEN HOUR”
The “Golden Hour” is what we photographers like to consider the optimal light for photography. This is 30 minutes before sunset and 30 minutes after sunset.
